MCC/LCC Commencement Celebration

Event Description:
Celebrations came from an idea out of the SOCA (Staff of Color Alliance) which wanted to support First Generation Students and Students of Color. It started with MCC (Multicultural Commencement Celebration) and the second year is LCC (Lavender Commencement Ceremony) once a committee was convened to have staff community buy-in to put on these celebrations for the students. Currently built into the Commencement & OSBI budgets and institutionalized. Veterans don’t have a ceremony but they receive a card and a letter of appreciation from the college (1-2 people yearly). Overview of the program from past years: the lead speaker is an alum and there is also a faculty speaker usually by nomination and invitation.
